John and Cindy’s 2024 Holiday Page

Last year we decided that the time had come for us to let go of a tradition we have loved of mailing our Annual Christmas Card. So 2023 was our final card, but not our final wish.  As we let go of the old, we created a new one in this Holiday page to give a brief update of the year.  And all is well here.  Cindy made it through her first year of “retirement” enjoying the new freedom while still connecting with teacher friends and students by jumping-in to sub in the lunch room from time-to-time and continuing to work on the summer team at the school district registration office. John continues on his speaking and writing journey, making adjustments along the way.  In August, he was inducted as a Legend of the Speaking Profession in Washington DC and in 2025 will begin his next writing project that “may” evolve into his 5th book. We enjoyed a nice mix of travel throughout the year between jumping down to Little Rock a couple times to visit with Julie and Keegan and our three grands there — EJ (6), Savannah (4) and Sadie Mae (2). We spent a wonderful 10 days in Savannah, GA at the beginning of the year and took a great adventure to Canada’s Victoria and Vancouver in early September.  Over July 4th weekend we celebrated the beautiful wedding of our niece Sarah to Steve Chapel in Nashville. And of course we always love Kelly’s visits from Lincoln Park and being with Ryan and Kirstin and our two high-energy and fun grands Declan (4) and Ronan (2) right here in Chicago!  John spent 6 weeks in Tucson in late February and throughout March to care for his oldest brother, Mark, in home hospice.  Mark entered eternal life on Easter Morning at 7:45am. While we will certainly miss him, John was so grateful to be able to walk with him through his final days here.

We hope you will stay connected in new ways — at the Holidays and everyday –as we plan to do the same.
